Come and visit us at stand A21
25-27 October 2011, 09h00-17h00
Cape Town International Convention Centre, Cape Town, South Africa
Propak Cape is the highly successful regional event taking place in the Western Cape, alternating in a three-year cycle with Propak Africa, the premier packaging exhibition in Southern Africa. This trade exhibition, together with co-located shows, offers an excellent opportunity for exhibitors: to generate sales, gain valuable sales leads and develop business connections.
For visitors, it's an exciting platform for all those involved with packaging, food processing, plastics, printing and labelling. Propak Cape, together with co-located shows FoodPro, Pro-Plas Expo, Pro-Label Cape and Print Expo, brings exhibitors together across the various sectors, each having synergy with the other, and visitors can engage with the most progressive companies in the country and view new products, latest industry trends, product developments and on-site product demonstrations.
Although the basic function of packaging is to preserve and protect the pack contents, packaging, particularly in the retail market, has become a fascinating marketing tool that is used to promote and sell products. Visitors will be able to see hot new trends in the area of packaging with a focus on design, extended shelf-life technologies and environment-sensitive advancements.
Exports from the Western Cape are big business, traditionally being dominated by primary products such as fruit, fish and vegetables - accounting for 60% of regional exports - so packaging is a big industry in this area. Add to this the beneficiation process (the manufacturing sector in Cape Town is largely centered on food processing), which brings increasingly higher value to the products, and one can see why the Western Cape is such an important area for these industry sectors, and why Propak Cape has been so successful since its launch in 2002.

FOSTER PACKAGING INTRODUCES FLEXIBLE EXPRESS
23 March 2011
The Flexible Express is a new pouch-maker for short runs. It is fully complemented with a bag/pouch maker, slitter and laminator plus all the necessary shaped dies for self standing pouches.
Foster Packaging’s new Flexible Express will be on display at stand number 716 at AUSPLACK PLUS, held this week in Melbourne, Victoria.
Short run printing for stand up pouches, flat bottom bags, quad seal bags
Foster Packaging has developed a new department designed for unique short-runs in flexible packaging that will be showcased during AUSPACK PLUS 2011.
According to Mr Joe Foster, Managing Director, Foster Packaging “Flexible Express is the name of the department that will offer short runs in flexible packaging using the same conventional specifications as the bigger packaging companies but in much smaller volumes.”
“Flexible Express can make anything from 1 to 20000 packs or impressions without having to invest in printing cylinders or plates. Our facility is based on digital print using HP Indigo process, Lamination and pouch making. The biggest challenge with digital print for the flexible packaging industry has been the print width of 317 mm. With this in mind we have custom made our downstream equipment to accommodate this allowing us to make most of the common sizes used for a full range pouches,” Mr Foster said.
Flexible Express is a new set up completely dedicated and fully complemented with a bag/pouch maker, slitter and laminator plus all the necessary shaped dies for self standing pouches. In addition to the automatic pouch-maker for short runs we have also set up a mini R+D section with specialised sealing equipment.
“This will enable us to support new ideas and development projects. We are now able to hand-make pouches for sample runs, trial sizing and testing and we truly can supply one pouch or ten thousand, what you want, when you want and how you want it.” he said.
Foster Packaging believed there is a great need for short-run packaging and developing Flexible Express recognises that companies are looking for new ways to market themselves.
Digitally-printed short-run packaging is a great way to do that. Variable data printing enables low-cost origination, quick changes to designs and text, changes of languages, localisation and personalisation. For example, cafés that sell coffee in their own branded bags will have a greater ability to build their brands and gain market share.’
As suppliers of gravure-printed flexible packaging, the team at Foster Packaging take printing quality very seriously. But, apart from quality issues, there are other benefits to digital printing that are just as important in today’s challenging business climate. These are no cylinder or plate charges, reduced stockholding, less substrate wastage during printing, less printed waste, short turnaround times, and the advantages of variable data printing.
